It is the 20th edition of the animated film festival. It starts this Tuesday, September 29, and runs until October 10.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of Monstra. The Lisbon Animation Film Festival was going to take place in the spring, but it had to be postponed because of the pandemic — instead there was an online version of the event where the short films were shown in competition.
This Tuesday, September 29, the face-to-face edition of Monstra kicks off, in the cinemas. The event will last until October 10 and is divided between spaces such as the Portuguese Cinemathetheca, CinemaCity Alvalade, Cinema São Jorge, and the auditoriums of Liceu Camões and Lusophone University.
Much of the programming that had already been announced will happen as planned. The feature films in competition will be shown, as well as the retrospectives that were already part of the program. Some of the best films that have gone through Monstra over the years will be shown again —and there will be a cycle of international short films from countries that have been official guests of Monstra. The full schedule can be consulted online.
