The visit is free and already has registration open for those who want to celebrate Valentine’s Day virtually
Valentine’s Day this year is celebrated in a confined way and to give encouragement to the home celebration, Parques de Sintra anticipates the date and will make on February 12 a virtual visit to the Pena National Palace, an international online event, live and free – is the “Pena Palace: Two Love Stories”.
Like all other national monuments, the Pena Park and Palace are also closed until further orders, but that does not mean that there are no visitors – even if they are virtual. And in this punctual opening that celebrates Valentine’s Day, the public will embark on a journey through two great love stories that marked the experience of that palace where the protagonist will be D. Fernando II.
The king first married Queen Maria II – and part of the visit will be focused on this story – but after the queen’s untimely death, D. Fernando II found new marital happiness with opera singer Elise Hensler, Countess d’Edla, despite the prejudices that this second relationship had to face.
The visit is scheduled for the 12th, from 16.00, and will be guided by António Nunes Pereira, director of the Pena Palace. The visit extends beyond the palace to the Chalet of the Countess d’Edla, a true romantic retreat nestled at one end of Pena Park. In the end, participants can ask questions to the director of the monument.
As this is an international event the visits will be conducted in English. Registration is free and is already open here.
